1947 -We Drew that Line
---- Pragati Dua
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Bodies flying, both ways across the Border
Shattering that seasoned, adage to bits.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Debauching the central essence of the Country:
"Unity in Diversity", to India, no more fits.
Timber-by-timber, brick-by-brick,
Raising that Wall was no shallow trick.
My brothers died at one call of Hate -
Man-made was Partition, 'twas not our Fate.
In the name of Religion they wanted to Part.
In His name it was that they broke Her heart.
It was She - our Mother - whose wounds to this day bleed,
And yet poised are our weapons.
She is waiting to be Freed.
Jinnah and You, Gandhi and Me,
Fought that battle for which the British laid the seed.
Atlee drew that Line in one swift stroke:
Dividing the Nation, I tell you, was no mean joke.
Diverse they were. Your father and Mine,
But on that fateful day this fact was enshrined.
Signed was the pact; sealed was the deed-
Hindustan was born. Pakistan decreed. decree
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Bodies flying both sides cross the border,
Shattering that seasoned adage to bits.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Debauching the central essence of the Country:
"Unity in Diversity", to India, no more fits.
