The old man shuffled into the drab and dreary room, sat on the drab and dreary table and thought of his drab and dreary life. He thought and he thought and then finally he got up and went to drink some water...and thats when the idea struck him. And it struck him with such force that he almost choked on the water...It really was so simple....yes...if you thought of it..it was REALLY so simple...and he hurried back to make the preparations...the final preparations... |

he pursed his lips and whistled. The sound emerged, thin and reedy but picked up soon, and it echoed eerily around the room, before it reached the lone window and burst through it, out in the open.
Then the sound paused, as if it was unsure of what to do next. Then it rose again. This time, the sound rose and fell in a rythmic cadence. It hobbled and it bobbled till it paused to a neat little window, lined by ferns, where an old lady sat watching her pigeons |

"it is strange how the instants of life repeats themselves",thought the man.some fourty years back when he first met her,she had asked her to give her some water. it was a very hot summer day that day and not a soul was seen in the near viccinity.he was standing at the edge of his farm trying to fix the water pump which wsa giving some trouble and she had approached her for water...he passed her a bottle that he usually kept for consumption because the the water from the pump was usually unfit for drinking. He saw her gulping the water. She appeared thirsty for months.he was amused to find her there. He knew that she was the daughter of the richest man in the village, who after having her stint in the city had finally come back home. She was very young and beaustiful and from her looks appeared very intelligent also.He compared her with himself.Born in a middle class family,he worked very hard to make it to the university. His professors claimed that he was the best student that fell on his lap.He just wondered what he was trying to do in this unknown part of the world with this beautiful stranger. He was suddenly disturbed from his reverie the voice of his wife who was now asking now beckoning him to come in and have his breakfast. For fourty years,he thought, this woman had devotd her entire life to him, taking care of his evry happiness, suporting him when he was down struggling the world. As he was thinking this he wondered if he had given her something of value for all her devotions and sacrifices. |

well,by the time he snapped out of his reverie, the old woman had gone back to the pigeons."Damn!",swore the frail, old man,"it is them pigeons that stole my sweetheart's attention from me..they ought to be slain"the old hag was livid with rage.he paced around the room thinking of a way to demolish 'them pigeons'.he suddenly came to an abrupt halt,a slow smile spreading across his face, the glint in his eye turning to a twinkle."They are dead meat",he muttered to himself gleefully and started rummaging his old trunk. |

he had been frowzen. He stood rooted at the spot. The sound reminded of the one thing he wanted to forget forever....his sister's death. From the day she died, he had been hearing shrill sounds, similar to the one he just heard, from the kitchen.....where he had killed her. But this sound he just heard wasn't from the kitchen. It came from outside. He wiped his sweat and slowly hobbled to the window to see what caused the sound. He peeped out of the window and he got the shock of his life when he saw... |
